Buyer checklist
- Confirm the seller’s identity and authority.Ask for a live phone or video conversation and proof that the seller owns the horse or is authorized to sell it.
- See the horse live.Whenever practical, inspect the horse in person or arrange an independent live video showing the horse, markings and requested maneuvers.
- Use your own veterinarian.Arrange an independent pre-purchase examination appropriate to the horse’s intended use. Obtain records directly from the clinic when possible.
- Put the agreement in writing.Document the horse, price, deposit, representations, inspection conditions, delivery, risk of loss and refund terms.
- Use a traceable, agreed payment method.Be cautious when anyone insists on gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, payment-app transfers or urgent off-platform payment.
- Verify transport separately.Confirm the hauler’s identity, insurance, timing and destination before releasing funds or the horse.
Seller checklist
- Confirm funds independently.Do not rely on screenshots, emailed payment notices or a buyer’s claim that a transfer is pending.
- Reject overpayment schemes.Never accept extra money and then send the difference to a shipper, agent or third party.
- Never share sign-in codes.GOODHORSES will not ask you to send a magic-link token, verification code or password to a buyer.
- Protect personal documents.Share only what is necessary and redact sensitive numbers that are not needed for the transaction.
- Disclose honestly.Accurate soundness, maintenance, temperament and performance information protects buyers, sellers and the reputation of the marketplace.
